Seriously. We had 20 INCHES OF SNOW dumped on us overnight. Just figures TODAY would be the day I get my period, huh?
-J: Low on -- uh, those?-
Yeah, though luckily I have enough to last me until tomorrow. Then I have to get up to CVS. Blargh. . . .
On a nicer note, saw Ghostbusters 2 and rather enjoyed it. :) I do think it was rather unrealistic to have the end of the first movie dismissed as some sort of publicity thing, but hey, the general plot worked for me. And it was fun seeing Egon again. :p
-D: *rolls eyes*-
What, I like the sciencey types!
-TTV: Then why on earth are you attracted to me?-
-TD: Hey, be fair, you ARE sort of the sciencey type. You're a hobby entomologist, aren't you?-
-TTV: That's not that well-established in the movie.-
*giggle* Anyway, your Christmas Fic for today:
The Eight Thing of Christmas that’s such a pain to me:
Whining Kids )

Oh, yeah, I owe you a chapter of the main story as well, don't I! Well then, here's Chapter 10. Hope you enjoy, I had a LOT of fun writing it! As for me, I'm off to watch one final video in an Alice Nightmare Let's Play.

Haven't done much today. Though I did discover it's possible to mess up a DVD enough to make it start skipping in the MENU SCREEN. Guess who didn't get to watch the Ghostbusters special features because the movie just kept automatically starting? Luckily I had an alternate option with the Seinfeld DVD we have, and the Ghostbusters 2 DVD looks like it'll play. (Though we have it on VHS too, as back-up.)
-M2: That sucks.-
I'll live. I vaguely remember seeing them before, back when the only way to watch a DVD was on this here computer. I forget when we actually got a DVD player, but it was after a year or two of living here.
-D: Of course, now you use the DVD player exclusively because your computer dislikes playing DVDs.-
I know. Anyway, most of the day was just hanging around the house. We were under a blizzard warning for most of it, actually.
-VD2: Blizzard?!-
Yeah. Though nothing materialized until rather late. That being said, I just looked outside, and it's starting to look rather white.
-Muses: *sulk*-
-TTV: Well -- at least we'll have a white Christmas?-
More like a muddy one -- so far they're predicting a snow/rain mix for the day itself.
Speaking of Christmas, let's have some fic:
The Seventh Thing of Christmas that’s such a pain to me:
The Salvation Army )
And finally, ABC Family showed a two-hour special of a bunch of Pixar shorts this evening, which means G2 got pushed back a night. I'm glad we got a chance to sit down and watch them -- though I'd seen a good number of them, there were a few I hadn't, like "Jack-Jack Attack," and all the early shorts. (Pixar made me feel bad for a UNICYCLE. What the hell.) The Mater Tall Tales were amusing too. Just wish there hadn't been so many commercials!
Oh, and another Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland trailer has come out. Film is looking interesting. [info]save_us_alice is a bit jealous that this Alice apparently gets armor when she fights. Me, I'm just wondering when the Red Queen and the Queen of Hearts became the same person. (I've got a theory for this for "American McGee's Alice," but what this film's excuse?)

It's definitely winter now -- the skin on the back of my hands is doing the whole "cracked and bleeding" bit. Blah. *wishes the warm temperatures were -- here, as they never really arrived in full during the summer* Send a little of that warm hair our way, Moose!

Mostly because I finally found out who does one of my favorite Christmas songs! Or, rather, mixed-up medley of Christmas songs. . . Straight No Chaser's 12 Days of Christmas :D And if you're wondering, this is the song that inspired the 88 Advent minific last year where I Rickrolled the Christmas Carols. XD

Anyway! Christmas fic time:
The Fifth Thing of Christmas that’s such a pain to me:
Five Months Of Bills )

All right, not much else to report -- had a much better day at work today, and I got quite a bit done on "The Solicitor's Ward." We're finally up to the awkward moment where Uncle Charles walks in on Victor and Alice kissing. :D Plot ahoy!
But first, bed, as it's freaking cold and I need to hide under the covers.

Today is fired.

But at least the damn Santa letter meme is working:

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In June I gave [info]revison_doc a Dutch Oven (-10 points). In April I got in line at the supermarket at the same time as someone else and I didn't yield (-8 points). In February I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). In March I put gum in [info]damostaranth's hair (-12 points). In July I helped [info]milennia_muses see the light (8 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-21 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

Sincerely,
docsgirl

I should mention the Nostalgia Critic did make me feel a little better -- he did a second list of Christmas specials/movies you ought to see. I was very happy to see that the Blackadder Christmas Carol got a spot! And you'll never believe what made #1. . . .

No, I'm not going to tell you. Go watch it. Get some Christmas spirit. (And just wait until next week's review.)

The Second Thing of Christmas that’s such a pain to me:

Now, as to the picture spam, I have some new toys to show you. First up, my still-in-box minimates:

The Battle-Damaged T-800 and Young John (not that we ever see Old John all that much)

Biker T-800 and Kyle Reese (who appears to have wandered in from the first movie, for some reason. Well Sarahmate will be happy.)

The BusterMates -- Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dana Barrett, Louis Tully. Yes, Louis is in there -- he's inside that Terror Dog, I believe. :p Poor guy. Hopefully someday I can get him out.

And now for the real winner -- MY VICTOR'S HERE!
-TTV: What? Already?!-
Yup! He arrived this evening! I was surprised too! Here he is in-box:

Nice, huh?
-TTV: Oh goodness that's creepy.-
The doll has no plans on your life, Victor. Just plans on my fingers.
-RPD: Huh?-
Chewed my right thumb and index finger up trying to get him out of the twist-ties. They tied a bunch of them all the way to the end -- I had to get my parents to help with a pair of little pliers! But, eventually, we got him loose.
Further Pictures of JunVictor )
After picture-taking, I had to find a place for him -- he's currently residing in the little "alley" that separates my big black bookshelf from my little wooden one with the McFarlane figures. Hopefully I can find a better place to put him later, but this'll do for now.

And now, to see if we have any freaking cough medicine. Damn it, cold, why won't you leave me in peace?

Yup, today starts the "Twelve Pains of Christmas" The Tale Christmas Special! If you're not familiar with the Twelve Pains of Christmas, Watch This. :D Anyway, shall be begin?

The First Thing of Christmas that’s such a pain to me:
Finding a Christmas Tree )

Also in the Christmas spirit, I have some pictures of our very untraditional Christmas tree. Mom cut it out of an oversized cardboard box this year and spray-painted it green. It's really gotta be seen to be believed:

Not too shabby, no?
-D: That actually looks very nice!
Thanks! Here's a close-up of the cardboard smiley star Mom made for it:

Yeah, very crooked, but I think that's the only way it'll balance on the tree. And, finally, a rather blurry picture of how it looks lit up in the dark:

Hopefully this'll keep all of you in good Christmas spirits. Me, I gotta go change the sheets on my bed. More of The Tale's Christmas Special tomorrow. Along with some pictures of my new minimates (the ones I haven't unboxed yet, anyway).

Another fun meme brought to you by rfreebern.

The creepy thing is, a good number of those are actually in-character.

Now, I'd also do the "Send a LJ Letter to Santa" meme, but the damn thing appears to be broken. I saw it on [info]tea_holic journal, so naturally I filled in my name there. But when it takes me to the page, it's still using her journal to fill everything in! And when I try to redo it from there, or from the site it's from directly, it doesn't give me anything! *frustration* Hmph. Anyone know of any other Christmas memes?

All right, I'd better go check on my muses to make sure none of the lights here at the muse house have decided to act wacky. I'm hoping a full-on team effort will discourage disaster!

The Jun Planning Victor's all paid for -- just have to wait for it to arrive now. :D I'll take some pictures when he does. Also, it was FREAKING COLD TODAY! I mean, SERIOUSLY! And it's not supposed to warm up for a few days yet. *hides under the bed covers* Wake me when it's summer, okay?

I decided to go ahead and bid on that Victor doll I mentioned earlier -- the damn things are so rare, it's best to take the opportunity to get them when you can. (Though it still bugs me the manufacturer would sell the toy with a bit of the metal skeleton exposed. Seriously, there was no way around that?) Anyway, I turned out to be the only bidder, so he's mine, all mine -- him and his puzzle Scraps! :D Just have to pay for him, and he'll be on his way.
-TTV: *looks dubious about all this*-
What? You should be happy I'm buying more merchandise from your canon.
-TTV: Yes, but those toys rather -- creep me out. The little McFarlane ones are bad enough -- how big is this?-
15 inches. And, uh, Jun Planning's apparently really good at getting movie-accurate.
-TTV: Good Lord.-
It's not like the toys are going to eat you in your sleep, you know.
-TTV: Say that when you have your own action figure with a perfect representation of your face.-
-VD: In more mundane matters, where on earth are you going to put it? You're the one who said she has no more self space.-
I'll find room. Maybe he can live on the hat with Johannes, Diego, Ice-Bat, Batkinz, and The Pink Thing.

Yes, I'm fully aware that sounded mildly insane.
-VD2: Everything about you is mildly insane. Why should this be any different?-
Why pot, you're looking quite black today!
-VD2: Oh hush.-
:p Anyway, not much else happening -- cold's slowly getting better. Almost done with another workweek, planning on seeing what I can do about Mom and Dad's Christmas presents this weekend. Our tree will also be going up -- Mom's making a cardboard one this year, and spray-painting it.
-TD: Have you ever had a normal tree?-
-D: Great Scott, it's been years since we had genuine once-living greenery in this house.-
*chuckles* Yeah, not since our first, maybe second Christmas here. We're rather nontraditional in that respect. I'll probably also have an Inkwell post where they decorate the place for Christmas, just to get everybody out and about. (Still waiting for replies for the Nexus Advent -- I swear, the event's cursed.)
-OD: How's the writing coming along?-
Eh -- "Solicitor's Ward" is doing fine on paper. Just finished the altered wedding rehearsal, so we'll be moving onto Wonderland soon. The Tale's Christmas Special is doing fine too. But I'm a little stuck in "The Tale" itself.
-DW: What's the matter? I thought you knew what was going to happen next.-
I do -- Doc shows up Forrester with another invention, and we proceed from there. Problem is, I can't come up with what the next invention should BE. I covered some of the others back when we first met Doc, and I don't want to repeat myself. And the invention has to be portable, as he's been working on these things when they make camp at night.
Aaand I just had an idea -- figures, huh?
-RPD: I guess you just needed to talk out the problem. Helps us sometimes.-
Yeah, maybe. . . *goes to make notes in the document*

Ugh
I THOUGHT I was getting better. . . Well, I guess I am, it's just that the cold has apparently decided to lodge itself in my throat. I hate that feeling. *hopes it goes away soon*

Anyhoo, not much to say -- work was work, I'm finishing up everyone's involvement in the current bit of the Nexus Advent, I wrote some more on The Tale's Christmas Special, and LJ notifications are still wonky. *shrug*

I suppose I could take a moment to do the wishlist meme -- rather than copy/paste the whole thing, I'll just state right out what I'd like if anyone cares to do anything for me:

VICTOR/ALICE STUFF.

Okay, yes, I won't say no to anything BTTF-related, but my inadvertent OTP has been on my mind a lot lately, and I'd particularly like some art or something for it. It's hard being pretty much the only person who ships something! I also wouldn't mind fanart for "The Tale," if anyone's interested.

Greediness quotient satisfied, I guess. :p I'm off to bed.

A little, anyway -- that sore throat's finally gone away. Now if only the stuffy nose would do the same.
-TD: I could make you up some nasal spray.-
Uh, no thanks. I dislike the idea of sticking anything up my nose, honestly.
-HD: Personally, I think you need something for that cough that appears to be developing. *tries to foist tea on me*-
It's nothing much!
-D: Yes, but I think it's going to be a day or two before you're truly better.-
Blah. Well, at least this one's not paired with my period or anything. And I should be all over all of it by Christmas and my birthday.
-VD2: Something to look forward to.-
Indeed.
Not much to report for today -- read the Wikipedia article about Action Park, which had to be the unsafest amusement park around. Just take a look at their signature water slide and tell me that's not dangerous.
-VD: Great Scott -- is that a loop-de-loop?!-
Yeah, basically. And this is your average water slide -- how the hell people were supposed to go down it and not break a leg when you hit the loop is beyond me.
-RPD: *shakes head* Negligent designers.-
I'd say cut them a little slack, they built one of the very first water parks in this country -- but seriously, a LOOP-DE-LOOP?
I also worked a little more on my Christmas fic, and did more with the Advent Tree. Almost missed out, though -- looks like LJ's comment notification woes have hit me. (Let's see if they arrive tomorrow. I say it's fifty-fifty.)
And there was also much Linkara goodness. More Frank Miller Batman weirdness -- gotta love it. But what really got me was this episode --
Had a shout-out to YAHTZEE! Of Zero Punctuation! :D Linkara actually apes his style in the middle of the review! I feel this is awesome, mostly because Yahtzee's another one of my favorite critics. Damn, if only we could get him, the Angry Video Game Nerd, and the Nostalgia Critic in a room together and give 'em something they could all rip on. *puts that with the idea of getting Mike and Joel for a riffing (seriously, they kind of squandered that opportunity when Joel visited at the beginning of Season 10)*
Actually, this is making me want to watch some Zero Punctuation. *goes off to find a good one*

Cold still in effect, though the sore throat that was accompanying it seems to be leaving for greener pastures finally. That and a stuffy nose made me feel all irritable at work today. Blah.
-D: *pats shoulder* Well, hopefully you'll be over it soon.-
Yeah, fingers crossed. I just want to know how I managed to plow through that box of Puffs so fast.-
Anyway, in other news, my RPG characters have all done a meme I saw on Moose's Captain John the First's journal ([info]hart_on_sleeve), regarding their first names. I thought it was amusing, so I gave it a go. Results:
Doc's Result -- NAILED him. That is so DEFINITELY Doc. :D
Victor's Result -- Eeeeh, not really. The first bit I can kind of see -- Victor is loving, no doubt -- but impulsive? Thaaat I'm not so sure on.
Marty's Result -- Yeah, that's pretty much Marty. Though a little of the language makes me think of Doc.
Alice's Result -- Again, that's pretty much Alice. I find it amusing her result was identical to Marty's.
Steve & Gary's Results -- Well, the guys are smart for turrets, and they definitely think outside the box. I think Gary's result is a bit more accurate than Steve's, though -- the turrets are more known for being unique than geniuses.
Simon's Result -- This one's hard to call, but I don't think it's a bad fit. I've always seen Simon as a nice chap, and if there's one thing his life is, it's unpredictable.
Lucy's Result -- HAHAHAHA no. This one's pretty much the complete OPPOSITE of Lucy.
Dee's Result -- Identical to her Daddy. Considering he pretty much built her, I'm not surprised.

My result would be the same as Victor's, incidentally, since my name is simply the feminine version of his.

And in further other news, a Victor I wanted but didn't buy at the time has popped up on eBay. Good, right?
Well, take a look at the huge picture they provide.
Is it just me, or is that an EXPOSED METAL JOINT in his knee?!
-TTV: O.O *looking creeped out*-
That annoys me! It's a lovely looking doll for the most part, but then I see that hole and that metal, and -- they couldn't at least spring for a bit of white PAINT for that bit?
-TD: You could paint it white yourself, you know.-
I suppose, but that still pisses me off a bit. You make a lovely little poseable doll, then let a bit of the metal interior shine through because of one stupid rip in the pants. (Makes you wonder why they didn't just go with non-ripped -- well, okay, he has Scraps with him, so obviously he's post ripped-clothes at that point. Even so. . . .)
-VD2: Yes, but will that keep you from getting a Victor you can actually hug if you feel like it?-
Murgh. . . .
-TTV: If it's got metal poking out its knee, I don't imagine it would be very comfortable to hug.-
This is what I get for getting into fandom late. All the good stuff, like Victor plushies, is a distant memory. And of course I get to see all the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff out in the stores, mocking me. *shakes fist*
Well, we'll see what happens. Right now -- bed.
